Yesterday I heard a version of “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” that almost made me cry. Good music has that effect on me and this version, by Sufjan Stevens, was that good. Having grown up in the church, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for hymns. The regular beats with simple melodies always make me think of a time in my life that was less hectic and complicated. Sure, I was bored by a lot of the songs as well, but in my opinion, that just means they were not good. I feel the same way about “Free Bird” and most Pearl Jam.

Add to the beauty of the song, the fact that Sufjan just rocks my world musically, and yeah, once again, the water works begin. Listen for yourself and see if it doesn’t make your heart beat just a bit faster.
